Off-piste skiing, Freeride or Freerando in Serre-Chevalier

Located in the North of the Southern Alps, on the border  of the Ecrins National Park, Serre-Chevalier is one of the best French ski resort. Between forest and high mountains, the off-piste skiing playground offered by Serre Chevalier is simply fantastic.
With  the experience of a local high mountain guide you will be able to take full advantage of this area, skiing the best snow with maximum safety.

Serre-chevalier is made up of 4 departures located along the Guisane valley, Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve la Salle and Monetier les Bains.

From Briançon, you can already find many itineraries, from the wo  Prorel forest, around the aiguillette lisft through the corridors of Prorel there will be something for everyone, obviously families and beginners but confirmed and experts will not be not left out.

From Chantemerle it will be mainly skiing in the woods or small nearby off-piste to practice in all weathers. Indeed, in Serre-Chevalier there are many larch forests (you know this conifer which loses its needles in winter and which allows the snow to settle at its feet, for our greatest happiness because it allows to have a uniform snowpack in a sparse forest and to be able to ski even without visibility).

From Villeneuve you begin to access the great off-piste, with a 15/20min walk you can ski great itineraries, valley of the crows, head of the great meadows or corridor of the Guibertes. But you can also do very beautiful off-piste accessible to all, such as the valleys of the Cucumelle, the bump in Jules or the slopes of the Balme and of course in bad weather stay in the forest.

Leaving from Monétier, you arrive at the poorest part of the ski lift and therefore the largest off-piste. Montagnole, Jackson, Cibouit, Neyzet, girls' corridor and so on.

Finally, for the bravest and those looking for a wild corner, from Serre-chevalier there are hiker passes allowing you to take 2 lifts to reach the top of the area and switch to the other side to escape by Nordic skiing.
We call it Freerando, a new term that designates ski touring while benefiting from the ski lifts. This makes it possible to increase the uphill/downhill ratio and thus to discover ski touring with beautiful wild descents and not too long climbs.

In short, you will have understood that Serre-Chevalier is a small paradise for off-piste skiing, freeride or freerando, to be discovered preferably with a high mountain guide because despite the ski lifts, you evolve outside the marked and secure area and you must respect the safety rules related to mountain skiing.
